Tips for first-time buyers before the Gothenburg Boat Show 2024:

Things that boat buyers wish they had thought of before buying. There are so many things we would do differently if we had our time again, so here are some dos, don'ts and tips:

  • Boats are personal. What is important to one owner may be negligible to another. So focus on your own personal needs and don't get too caught up in what other people think.
  • Think about what kind of boat trips you plan to do now and in the future. Planning to take the boat further afield? Will you live aboard, cruise the coast or cross the seas?
  • Get on as many boats as you can. Whether it's to just see them, it helps you create a picture of what's most important to you. Do you need a boat that you can comfortably drive with two crews or even solo? This was an important variable for us to determine early on, as it affects the number of berths needed, equipment, size.
  • Don't compromise too much on your essentials and don't stretch too far.
  • If the boat isn't big enough for your parents/grandkids/friends to visit and spend the night, maybe that's not a bad thing and maybe they can afford a hotel?
  • Spend a lot of time checking out the hidden parts: engine, electrical, marine safety and anti-theft.
  • Leave no cabinet unopened - Ask questions!
