The demand for powerful outboard motors is continuously increasing. The new engines have in turn created a demand for new, larger boat models, which previously had inboard drives or inboard engines as a power source. As more powerful outboards are launched, the boats get bigger, and as the boats grow, the outboards become even more powerful. With the goal of building the ultimate four-stroke outboard, Suzuki set out on a journey of technological discovery. Where is the limit?<\/p>\n

Increasing engine power is easy. You can increase the horsepower by increasing the cylinder volume or installing a turbo unit or a compressor. But larger engines also draw more fuel, while the increased weight creates various problems for the boats, and more complex engine components reduce the reliability of the engines. In addition, the boat's top speed is limited by the design of the hull, the hydrodynamics around the lower part of the engine and propellers, and the location of the engines. When developing the new Suzuki DF 350 AP, we started with a blank sheet of paper and took all the above factors into account in our design and construction. First of all, we looked at the propeller design. A traditional single propeller creates a forward force but also generates a lot of rotational energy. Was there anything we could do to convert this wasted energy into productive power and increase the efficiency of the propeller? Next, we looked at the leading edge of the gear housing, which interferes with the flow of water over the propeller. More power and torque require larger and stronger gearbox gears to transfer the power from the drive shaft to the propeller shaft. In normal cases, this means a larger gearbox - which leads to the water flow to the propeller being disrupted even more. Was it possible to design a lower part of the engine with room for stronger drives on the Suzuki DF 350 AP, while minimizing the disturbance of water flow to the propellers? Suzuki engineers worked long and hard with computer simulations, trial designs and water tests to significantly improve the Suzuki DF 350 AP's ability to convert engine power into propulsion underwater. They succeeded in the task \u2013 and the result is a revolutionary innovation. We have given the engine the name Geki, which means \"Parting Seas\" - the water divider<\/p>\n
